The Deaf Community's vision has flourished at Saint George's, as the Deaf have grown in Christian friendship with one another and with the Hearing members of the congregation. The Deaf are more and more integrated into parish life, participating in corporate worship, fellowship, and parish meetings.
Corporate Worship: The Deaf and Deaf/Blind attend the main Sunday service each week, with the assistance of a professional interpreter and intervenors for the Deaf/Blind. On Wednesdays, the Deaf Community also worships at 10 a.m., with Bill Comerford often serving at the altar. St. George's has been the congregation of the Deaf for over eighty years and it is wonderful for this ministry to continue in the present day.
Service: We love. We serve. We go. Our Deaf community ministers to the other Deaf in Northwood Centre, especially on the eighth floor of Manor House. Each Friday at 10 a.m. various denominations (Lutheran, United, Baptist or Anglican) take turns conducting a church service in the auditorium. Edna, a Deaf intervener, participates with the Deaf Community.
Laura Bartlett, our Interpreter, currently has no backup, which means that when she is away, the Deaf are unable to participate in worship. Please keep the Deaf Ministry in your prayers.
