St George's Restoration Quilter's was founded in 1998 to put
together and hand-quilt a huge commissioned appliqued quilt. The
revenue from the commission was donated to the church Restoration
Fund after the devastating fire in the church in 1994. Several
crib-sized quilts were also sponsored. Now that the church
restoration is complete, funds from sponsored and commissioned
quilts are donated to designated parish-run programmes. |

Since our first commissioned quilt "Garland of Roses" was already nearly 50 years old, a traditional quilting method was used with equipment purchased from an Acadian farm in northern Nova Scotia. |
 |
Eventually this quilt was renamed "Elizabeth's Garland of Roses" in honour of the original applique top owner. When completed, the quilt was chosen for display in several regional quilting events. |

Prior to 2000, Crib Quilts were donated to the Linus Project which provides quilts and blankets to children in crisis. Since 2000, Crib quilts have been donated to the Halifax Regional Emergency Response Team, Adsum House, The Childrens' Wish Foundation, the IWK Childrens' Emergency Department, and to a needy mother-to-be in the IWK Pre-Post Natal Fitness Programme. |
The word 'restoration' remains in our group's name because we believe we are playing an important role in restoring trust, comfort and joy to children in crisis; and restoring confidence and friendships among the quilters and our tea guests. When we put stitches into these beautiful creations of others, we feels a part of our heart and soul has been added to them.
We have a small but dedicated group of quilters who meet every Tuesday morning from 9.30am to noon in the Hall Guild Room. Mid-morning tea-time brings us several guests who share our delicious tea, sweets and great fellowship. We include the reading of the Morning Prayer readings during our time, and this has lead to some interesting and thoughtful discussions.
