Our Parish Outreach - Loving our Neighbour at Home and Abroad
Below are opportunities to participate in our Parish Christmas Outreach. Of course there are many significant outreach initiatives which continue throughout the year. These include the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund, our sponsorship of the Shining Lights Street Choir, Salvation Army beds for those not able to sleep at Turning Point, Food Vouchers for families in crisis, bus tickets, the Poor Fund to assist the desparate in special circumstances, the Saturday Soup Kitchen, etc.

CHRISTMAS OUTREACH

THE SEAFARER SHOEBOX CAMPAIGN
Hundreds of thousands of seafarers visit Halifax each year. For those away from home at Christmas, churches in the Metro area put together shoe boxes which are filled with warm mitts, gloves, hats, scarves, personal toiletries, writing pads and pens, etc. The boxes with these items are then delivered to the Missions to Seamen ministry which distributes them to seafarers in port over the Christmas season. For more information contact Patricia Martinson or Anne Tilley

CHRISTMAS BASKETS FOR SHUT-INS
In our parish family, there are parishioners who are not able to attend worship services on a regular basis for many reasons. At Christmas, a small basket is delivered to these parishioners. Small presents, tea, baked goods, candies and small toiletry items are all suggested donations. A box will be available at the back of the church for donations. Drivers will also be needed on December 19th to help deliver these gifts.
Please contact Kim Connors at 431-8416 or klickers@dal.ca, or call the church office for more information.

CHRISTMAS FAMILY OUTREACH 2009
Every year St. George's assists families at Christmas by providing a Christmas hamper, which includes food for breakfasts and lunches for children over the holiday week, a set of clothes, a present, and a book for each child in the family. There are several ways you can be involved in this outreach effort. You can provide financial support by placing a donation on the collection plate, clearly labeled Christmas Outreach. Or you might like to donate presents, or just a turkey. Or consider sponsoring a family either through your workplace, an organization, or personally -- $250 covers the cost of everything for a family with several children. Many volunteers are also required to prepare the hampers: on Friday December 18th at 1.30 p.m. two strong-bodied volunteers to unload grocery boxes from the delivery truck; on Saturday morning, the 19th, starting at 8 a.m., 10-15 wrappers and packers; from 12 p.m. 6-10 drivers for delivery. Sign-up sheets are at the back of the church. For more information please contact Kim Connors at 431-8416 or klickers@dal.ca, or speak with Elizabeth Jones.

YouthNet's St. Nicholas Party
On Saturday, December 5, Youthnet is holding their annual St. Nicholas party. If you are interested in helping out (being there to supervise a craft or game, or donating Gingerbread Cookies to decorate are a few examples of how you can help) please contact Ed Trevors at edtrevors@hotmail.com.
