October 2nd, 2011 and following ~ Sunday Evensong and all services of Morning & Evening Prayer return to the Round Church for the winter.

Sunday Youth Group: From 9:45-10:25 am on Sundays, Liz Curry will lead a program for young people, age 12 and up. The class will build upon the foundation of last year's confirmation class and will include elements of teaching and discussion. The content of this course will flow into our monthly youth events and other parish activities in which the youth are involved. This program offers a way for us to support the youth in the parish as they mature and grow in their spirituality.

Adult Sunday School: Sunday mornings 9.45am-10.15am in the Sunday School room.
The topic of study will be, "Why the Psalms? Why do psalms have such a prominent place in the Holy Communion service?" Each week, we will look at the introit and gradual psalms for the Sunday. We will have a chance to see how the psalms preach Christ, describe the Church, guide our prayers, give voice to our hopes and anxieties, and serve as a kind of Bible in miniature. This study group will be led by the Rector.

The Prince Edward Consort presents "Good Queen Bess": The Prince Edward Consort, a one-to-a-part vocal ensemble directed by our very own Andrew Pickett, will present "Good Queen Bess," music and readings from the life and times of Elizabeth I. The programme will feature sacred and secular works by Tallis, Byrd, Morley, Weelkes, and Wilbye. Special guests will include the Fret Naught viol consort; Michael Robson, lutenist; and Gwynedd Pickett, reader. Admission is by donation (suggested $20), and all proceeds go to the Friends of St. George's Society to benefit music at St. George's. St. George's Church, Sunday Jan 29, 7 pm.

Thursday, February 2nd: The Presentation of Christ and Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Candlemas)
7:00 pm Choral Holy Communion:
The service will feature a candlelight procession in which all who are present will take part. As we will hear in the Gospel reading, the ancient Simeon greeted the arrival of the Infant Jesus with the words: “Lord, now lettest Thou thy servant depart in peace.” Simeon recognized the Christ Child as his Saviour and carried Jesus, the Light of the world, in his arms, and so we too will carry our lighted candles as a sign of that light that came into the world. During this service, all the candles for the next year will be blessed.
Almighty and everliving God, we humbly beseech thy Majesty, that, as thy only-begotten Son was this day presented in the temple in substance of our flesh, so we may be presented unto thee with pure and clean hearts, by the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (The Collect for the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, BCP, page 266)

Information meeting about plans for the hall after the 10:30 am service Sunday, February 5. Information sheet

Altar Servers Training Session There will be an altar servers' training session on Saturday, February 11, at 2pm in the Round church. This is an opportunity for all current and aspiring altar servers to learn about assisting with the celebration of Holy Communion each Sunday morning.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper: Tuesday February 21, 4:30-6:30pm
The menu includes pancakes and sausages with gingerbread and cream for dessert! Tea, coffee, and juice will be available, and the meal will be brought right to the table by our talented volunteers.
