Overview

Mission Alignment (Core Principle)

St. George’s Parish rents its spaces as an extension of its ministry of hospitality, heritage, and community engagement, recognizing that rentals are not merely a revenue activity but must align with the parish’s mission and vision. Priority is given to groups and activities that support spiritual, artistic, educational, cultural, or community well-being, that respect the sacred and historic character of the buildings, and that do not conflict with Anglican beliefs or parish values. This guiding principle informs which groups are accepted as renters, how rental fees are set, when reduced rates may be considered, and how long-term tenants and partners are managed. Mission alignment must always take precedence over revenue generation.

Approach & Principles

·         Mission over money – value-aligned groups receive reduced rates

·         Competitive with Halifax venues

·         Sustainable – pricing must cover real costs (heat, cleaning, wear, staffing)

·         Tiered based on renter type

·         Simple and transparent

Renter Categories (Tiered Pricing)

Tier 1: Mission-Aligned / Parish Partners (e.g., YouthNet, Halifax Humanities) – Custom pricing packages negotiated annually; insurance is mandatory.

Tier 2: Non-Profit / Community Groups (e.g., choirs, cultural organizations, meetings) – 50% discount from commercial rate; must pay sexton, insurance, parking at full rate.

Tier 3: Commercial / Ticketed / Private Events (e.g., concerts, weddings outside congregation, paid workshops, recordings) – Full market rate; must pay sexton, insurance, parking, deposits; may incur surcharges.
