Sunday School

This page is to help parents of all of our Sunday School students carry on with the work of helping their children to develop a relationship with God, to learn about him, and to help us maintain fellowship among our students, while many of us are away from the physical buildings of the parish.

We have divided the program by age group. Each week you will find a video with a reading, often by a parishioner, and some activity related to the reading. For some age groups there may also be a written text or a second video with a very short lesson. We have also included some ideas for family worship time for each age group.

Reception: Ages 3 to 5

The program for this age group is very simple. There is a short video of a children’s story based on Bible stories, and one or more suggested activities to accompany it. Pick whichever activity works best for your family.

We recommend setting aside a time each week for the lesson. Worship for this age group is quite simple in our Sunday School, with a short prayer and perhaps a song. This is also the age to begin introducing regular, simple prayers attached to daily activities like meals, waking up, or going to bed.

Form I: Ages 6 to 9

Our lessons for this group are based around stories about important people in the Bible. They are based on Biblical stories that have be adapted for children. Each week contains a video of the story being read, and also some activities to accompany the story. Please choose whatever activities work best for your family.

We suggest setting aside a regular time each week for the lesson, and accompanying it with a short worship time. In Sunday school we use the Service for Young People from the Book of Common Prayer, and that would be a good choice for home use too. Another possibility is the Forms of Prayer to be used in Families, also found in the BCP. Encourage the children to read some of the prayers if they are good readers, or contribute some of their own, or the names of people to pray for.  Some older children might like to lead the whole prayer service.

Form II: Ages 10 to 12

Our lessons this year are based around the accounts of important people in the Bible.  Each lesson contains a video of a Bible story about the person, as well as a text version. The story is the same video as the Form I students will watch, so you can have your children watch these together. The text links will be from the corresponding parts of the Bible. There will also be some activities to choose from, and possibly a second video with a very short lesson by myself, Fr Hatt, or someone else.

Most of our Sunday school children in this age group are quite used to this prayer services, and helping to read some of the prayers, and they may be willing to lead the service for your family worship time.
